The delicious broth has subtlety and nuance, and isn't over-salted. I felt no need to add condiments. Portion size was ample; meat was tasty and tender though I would have liked a little more of it (I went with lean beef and fatty brisket). Lots of green onion afloat in the broth; garnishes included lots of bean sprouts, sliced hot green chiles, lime wedges, and basil. The pho with rare beef and meatballs was delicious. The broth was smooth and piping hot. Tasted very nourishing. The service was great and the food came out very quickly. Will be visiting again very soon!
I absolutely adore this place - the pho and chicken soups are top notch, and almost everything else I've had there is very good as well. The only complaint on food is the spring roll - a bit flavorless with all the lettuce, but a fine vehicle for yummy peanut sauce. Service is a bit uneven, as other reviewers note - and I can't argue. Show up right when they open or for an early dinner, because at prime time when it's totally packed, the kitchen gets backed up - otherwise it is very fast. This place is also a good value.
Love the pho there, the eggrolls aren't bad either. The chicken wings are good too. The price is decent. The only thing I hate about going to Pho 79 is..having them rush me to order, eat, pay my bill, and leave. Like can I have some time to look at the menu, eat and enjoy my meal?? -.- I don't know, maybe it's because the place is small so they feel like they have to rush people out to put new people in.
Normally I would never give a one star rating but I had been coming here for years and I will never come here again. The service was horrible, waited over 10 minutes to get a water and was never asked what we wanted to drink. Never offered a refill. And in the middle of the day they ran out of meatballs. I settled for a substitution of brisket. Soup was not even hot, lukewarm at best. The serving size was probably the smallest I've seen in the city.
