Open and virtually unchanged since 1864, this homey destination attracts tourists as well as its share of locals. With a long attractive bar, wooden booths and well-drawn pints of beer, it is a comfortable stalwart in an ever-changing world. The menu features the usual selection of pub fare, including burgers and steaks, and also a large selection of Italian dishes and seafood. However, this is much more than just a local bar, and its location near Gramercy Park ensures a mostly upscale crowd. After work, it can be difficult... read more

Only If You Want to Sit Outside... – Last night was a gorgeous night and my boyfriend and I decided to try this neighborhood pub with the thought of sitting outside. We were told upon arrival that the wait for an outdoor table was 20 - 25 minutes and because we were determined, we put our name on the list. We barely had two sips of our beer at the bar before a table was ready for us. The food was mediocre - bread was cold and the hot antipasto appetizer was nothing more than some rubbery fried zucchini sticks (do NOT order!)... read more
Always a good choice – Have to admit that having Pete's as your neighborhood bar is by far the best ever. Always a good crowd, great choices for drinks and even the food is good. Perfect place to wind down on a weeknight!
eh – I'm not sure what all the rave reviews are about. This place is just ok. Nothing special. It's a neighborhood pub. Granted, its a rare find in the neighborhood that it is located in. But it's a plain wooden bar, some wooden booths, bartender not particularly friendly, nearly empty on a saturday night. It was fine to grab a beer, but really nothing special.
a little over-hyped – not recommended - service was meager and the management was unhelpful
O. Henry's beloved tavern is a landmark in its own right. – It's hard to have anything but a soft spot for Pete's Tavern. Established in 1864 and thereby in the running for the much-disputed title of New York's oldest bar in continuous operation, the pub holds dark wood booths and lamppost-like lighting fixtures that seem like they've been in place since day one. The menu, however, has shifted with the times, offering up apple martinis and well-dressed salads alongside the more traditional beer and burgers. It's fitting that... read more
Bad experience – Went with a group of 6. We had two waitresses both of whom were training. Needless to say, the salads did not come before the meal, drinks were spotty at best, one diner ordered lasagna and got a hamburger. The manager was very apologetic and gave us a free round of drinks. Pete's is usually quite good but it seems like they are currently short wait staff.
Rude and Poor – The hostess was unbelievably rude...she wouldnt sit me until half of my party was there which sometimes is fine BUT NOT when there are 10 empty tables. When they arrived she told us that we had to order dinner to keep an outside table and if we didnt and it got crowded she would move us inside. Once seated the food we ordered was nothing special and bordered on poor especially considering how overpriced it was....
the worst service in New York. – A "soft spot" for Pete's Tavern? Only if you enjoy eating while members of the waitstaff scream at each other about who refilled the ketchup and who doesn't want to wait on the kind elderly man at the next table. The choice of salad dressings at Pete's? "Russian or Russian," according to our waiter. The price of a dry buffalo burger with mealy french fries? $12.95. I know Pete's has a storied history, but this old tavern is resting on its decrepit laurels. I don't think I've ever experienced ... read more
JJ – A must for cocktails. Better for Beers / Burgers & Brunch. You can't beat the Friendly Bartenders. Very Neighborhood Crowd They are as friendly as the entire place.
