I called Pete's Mechanic Shop because the previous owner had major repairs (air suspension compressor and shock absorbers) performed there. The work was still within the stated warranty period, but the shop refused to honor the warranty simply because ownership of the vehicle had changed. If a repair is still under warranty, I believe the quality of the work should stand on its own, regardless of who owns the car, unless that limitation is made very clear upfront. I had some pretty extensive work done on my old car earlier this year at Pete's. They were thorough and were proactive in informing me of estimated cost, and it was right on target. I had a bit of trouble with my car this week and fully expected a terribly expensive repai since my car is a 1976 240D. I arrived to pick it up only to be told that there was a ZERO charge, as it was under warranty from prior repair. They didn't have to do this. No attempt to contact *** *Response to Greg: to be clear I am upset that there were zero attempt to notify that an error was made on the estimate, and that the cost was going to be nearly 30% more. I called another mechanic and got at quote for $1200 for both axels. Hopefully you learned to contact your customers and inform them of any changes you're making, especially when you have them sign something. I have a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300D with a broken axel.
