Head out to this elegant restaurant in the Financial District, for honest Italian fare and an atmosphere that encourages conversation. Inspired by their food travels around Italy, owners Umberto Gibin & Steffan Terje, opened up Barbacco as a relaxed space to enjoy good food and company. Communal tables encourage socialization while a limited number of standard tables cater to those who prefer quieter company. Brick-exposed walls with wooden accents and sleek metallic supporting beams make the delightful dining room. Warm lig... read more

Too much hype – I want to be fair. but, it seems when a new restaurant opens it is a given it will be busy. So, one cannot judge how good a place is by how busy it is. With this said. Perbacco did not impress. The food was OK. But, the service was bad. Many of the Servers on the Friday night we went seemed running around in chaos. I tried to stop a Server and was told it was not her section, but she will get my Server. This never happened she then did not make eye contact from that point foward afraid she might have to do so... read more
High-end Italian, Excellent Service – We were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service. (Top 5 in San Francisco). The food was amazing. Sophisticated and creative and all of the dishes were excellent. Try the raw fish as a starter-we had the scallops and tuna. I am not a raw scallops fan but these were unbelievably good. The pork is amazing and so is the fish. The service sets this place apart, like I said some of the best service we have had in a long time. While we ate with friends, I would recommend it as a great p... read more
We had great service – It's true that Perbacco is a bit loud - the tables are fairly close together - but we found the service to be excellent and the food delicious. We walked in on a busy Friday night and were able to get in right away without a reservation (but were told that the table would be needed in about an hour). Our server was fantastic (and Italian!) and, when asked, provided great recommendations on both wine and food (they have a white wine - a varietal called tocai - by the glass that was very good). The compl... read more
great food, great service, little too noisy – We had a networking dinner event so we had been seated in the private room which by the way it is a little to noisy for been "private". We had a pre fixed menu' which was good value for money. We had a parmiggiano souffle' (delicious) followed by handmade rveal ravioli very fresh even though the veal was a little bit too mcuh for the delicate ravioli. Last but not least delicious wine ribs and rich chocolate cake. Superb service. Lovely ambiance, noise can be a problem.
Decent Food but Terrible Service. AVOID – This place was a real dissapointment. I went it in hoping to really enjoy it but left very upset. The service was terrible. Our waiter was not very helpful and kept walking by our table serveral times before even acknowledging us. We ordered some cocktails which actually came out AFTER our appetizers. The waiter never checked up on us besides the times he brought out our drinks, appetizers, and entree. Although the food was good, the overall experience was a real disappointment. Mayb... read more
Great new Italian restaurant and bar! – What excellent food. The pasta with the short rib ragu was the best I've ever had! My recommendation on the service, which was very good but not perfect, is: bring the wine quickly and we won't mind waiting the time it took for our appetizers to arrive. I have been back 3 times.
Avoid..period – Had dinner here last night (1/9) and was completely disappointed. I wanted to love this place, but the service was terrible. My girlfriend had reserved a mezzanine table as it was my birthday, but was told that someone else was seated there by mistake, and we would need to wait for 30 minutes for our table! Our waitress was nice, but our appetizer took over an hour to get to us, and it was only the salami plate! Overall I was unimpressed by the food and the service. With so many other great restaurants around... read more
Service needs some work – Dined here on a Tuesday night with 3 friends, and while the food was tasty, the service left a lot to be desired. We waited 20 minutes for our table, and once seated waited a long time for anyone to come by with menus, water etc. After we ordered wine and appetizers (the burrata cheese is very good) we waited and waited for someone to take our entree order. Finally, our wine and appetizers arrived-- but we still had not ordered entrees. The table was a mess, because we still had menus, and no one ca... read more
Truly memorable evening – What a pleasant surprise. Perbacco's menu has a breadth of Northern Italian fare that won't disappoint. Try the fritto misto to start with a cocktail from the fully stocked bar. I had the crusted sole with the citrus-fennel salad. The sommelier was courteous and helpful, offering the perfect paring with little fuss. While we expected to finish with a dessert, our hunger was satiated with the outstanding cheese plate. Truly old world perfection. You must try the gorgonzola, chestnut honey, wine soake... read more
