Here in Nederland and the surrounding mountain community we value self-reliance. We chop our own wood and forage for our own mushrooms. We count the miles we've hiked, not the miles on our cars. We live and breathe by the land and weather that surrounds us. Amy reminds me that even when my life is just too much for me, that I still have a reason for being here. When I am at my worst I can call Amy and sheâll get me laughing in no time. As my counselor, Amy Hartman is the one person I talk to, really talk to, in my life. She listens and does not judge me. That is what I like, the no judging part.
