I have lived her for about 5 years and have seen the property be turned of to a couple different companies. Avenue 5 really does try to pinch every penny out of you. I appreciate the updates to the building but paying for common area electric is just absurd. Really enjoyed when Mathew was in the building as he responded to emails quickly and seemed to do a great job with community events and engagement. So I have enjoyed living here and small frustrations have been fixed (water shut offs and elevator repair), but recently there have been problems regarding security. My bike was stolen from the secured basement by someone using an angle grinder on the rack. Around this same time, someone had their electric scooter stolen from there as well by someone with bolt cutters removing the locked fence area. While the building is old, it has been well cared for and has a lot of unique character. Some of the units are bigger than you would expect, and the hard walls insulate sound very well. There are often improvements and renovations that are an inconvenience to all, but there is always adequate notice. I was nervous when utilities were no longer included in the rent, but it has been worth the price. Great sound proofing, lots of space for the price, pleasant neighbors and the property managers are very nice. Only downsides are sometimes the lobby smells like pet urine and there’s not enough parking for every resident to have a space.
Company will work hard to keep your deposit, shared utilities can exceed amount of unit usage.
