It wasn’t bad I was there nearly 12 years ago but I remember some staff like Mr. Maurice and his twin brother Marcus. I nicknamed Mr.Maurice “moo moo” which ended sticking with him for years after I was discharged. I wish I would’v stayed in contact with him Overall it’s a decent place from what I remember, I will say bathrooms and living areas for the kids need to be updated if they haven’t been yet
This place is mid at best, I went when I was 10 and 12, the only good people there imo was Tonya, Mr. D and Liz, also shout out to Mr. D for being one of the kindest adults to me in that time of my life, I was going THROUGH IT.
I was in the PRTF about two years ago. My stay wasn't good. I would always get into fights with other peers and the staff would encourage the fights. My therapist who was Beth didn't help me at all. I tore up her office one day because she wouldn't listen to me and wouldn't do anything about my needs. I remember that I got into a fight one day, and I went into a restraint, and then the staff pushed my face into the ground and I had a rug burn all over my face. I wish this "therapy" place shut down. I was there from August 2019 until June 2020, almost a year. They were planning on discharging me in March 2020 but my therapist Desi and my case manager Liz said I wasn't safe enough. There was one day I was upset because I got in a fight with Kayleigh and Isabella two other unit kids. Kayleigh and Isabela were not restrained, I was. I was restrained by five staff. There are much better places to send your child in here. I’ve had one of the worst experiences in healthcare in my life. if you’re looking for a PRTF. It might be convenient if you live in Topeka, but I would look elsewhere.
