Best Dog Store in NYC – I bought a chihuahua from them about 2 years ago. I had asked around and it seemed that everyone who had an adorable dog with a great disposition had gotten the dog from Parrots and Pups. My experience was the same-I got an amazing dog. Where they really stand out is in the follow up care though. With a new puppy there are always a few mishaps-usually when they eat things not meant to be eaten. Each time I have called them I was told to come in (once at 8am on a sunday morning!) and that they would lo... read more

I know many people who have had bad experiences here and at other pet shops – I know many people who have purchased puppies from this place who are not happy. Why? Several of them discovered that the puppies they bought were younger than they were told. Some of these puppies were imported from Russia and Hungary and they were too young to be shipped such a great distance and far too young to be taken from their mother. None of the people In know got the amazing treatment that some of the posters here mention. These puppies m... read more

BAD BAD BAD – Don't do it. You are contributing to the torture of many many dogs by funding this business. Don't be selfish. The puppies are cute and sweet but they come from places that are horrifying and the only thing keeping them in business in the people that spend money there. To the people that read the posts and went anyway..... Shame on you. Ignorance and laziness. "You don't know until you try" what sort of stupid remark is that? Try? Did you try going to the mill where the puppy came from? And everything was ok? M... read more

Not your run-of-the-mill pet store – I got an AKC registered Yorkshire Terrier puppy from this place over 7 months ago and their follow-up care has been nothing short of wonderful. I called them several times over the first few weeks when I was unsure if she was eating enough etc., and I've brought her in a couple of times over the months when she caught a cold and recently when she had a bad reaction to a shot. Each time they took care of her for a couple of hours and gave me great home remedy advice that worked great - eac... read more

TRUTH: No reputable breeder would ever sell to a pet shop – I have never lived without a dog. Several members of my family are vets. I know several breeders. I know a lot about dogs. One thing that I have never heard anyone who knows a lot about dogs say is this: Buy a dog from a pet shop. Do you think the pet shop workers are going to say that there dogs do not come from good places? They are used to that question. And, honestly, maybe some of the workers even THINK that the dogs they sell come from breeders. Simply googlin... read more

VERY Happy With My Dog – I bought an Italian Greyhound from them and I couldn't be happier. The sales person, Josh, answered all of my questions about the breed accurately. I took the dog to the vet they recomended in Chelsea and the dog is perfectly healthy. Josh even followed up with a phone call to see how she was doing a few days after the purchase. My mother, an animal activist, has had several dogs over the years so I was aware/weary of the puppy mill thing but they assured me this dog was from a 'real' breeder and she... read more

It is all about THE TRUTH! Please do not patronize places like this. No informed pet lover would!!! – It is not about hating anyone. It is simply about the truth. Pet shop dogs come from puppymills or backyard breeders . It is all about profit. Not health. Not temperament. Just money. The poster who wrote that a breeder would not help you with a sick dog is just WRONG. A reputable breeder (not some backyard breeder who buys two purebreeds and throws them together in a room to mate) gives you advice or will take the dog back.... read more

Amazing trustworthy experience. Don't believe the haters – My friend bought her yorkie from Parrots & Pups & had a wonderful experience. Soon after, I found myself taking the trip with her to the store to buy a yorkie of my own, a sweet little boy. Right away, I was assured that if I needed any help or advice, I could call one of the owners or managers 24 hours a day on their cell phones which were given to me. I needed their help within a week when I went to Dr. Silvers at Lexington Veterinary Group who gave my less than 2 ... read more

Parrots and Pups - direct to you from midwest puppymills – Despite claims that our dog had come from "a farm where all the dogs lived in a cozy kennel with fresh hay" or something to that effect, I traced the paperwork for our little terrier to a horrific backyard breeder in Missouri. You can plug your dog's Parrot's and Pups numbers into an online database and find out where exactly these poor dogs came from. I really regret buying our dog like this - I now know a lot more about where this pet shop (and all pet shops, reall... read more
