This used to be one of the best restaurants in Salem, offering an inventive, superbly crafted menu and cocktail list. Earlier in January for reasons I cannot fathom, under the guise of a kitchen renovation, the restaurant fired their longtime staff, and as far as I can tell, the chef, and reopened with a new menu that, while technically adequate, is uninspired and overpriced. Nice place, the menu items (on the paper menu) were about half of the menu items on the website. I was told there was a new chief. The fish & chips (Haddock) was WAY dry and tough to cut when it cooled down. I was reading some of the reviews (Cioppino, chicken kebabs, Pork Loin, Moroccan Chicken, etc.) None of these was on the menu. My wife had the Bolognese spaghetti (again not on the website menu). I was really looking forward to the Scallops, again not on the paper menu. O-well
Great experience sitting at the bar. Bartender was great, great drinks, great conversation ... made the whole experience something that keeps this place on our short list when we head downtown.
The food and atmosphere of this restaurant are amazing and worth it for special occasions. I gave 4 stars to the service because we had quite an odd experience with the water. The first time my water was filled while leaving my husband's un-refilled but I chalked it up to our waitress being right behind her waiting to take our order but then it happened again except this time we both put our glasses on the end of the table to show we both wanted a refill of water and only HIS water was refilled, ignoring mine.
