Whenever we had a fire in our fireplace we'd get smoke in the house, so we figured it probably needed sweeping. Alvin came out yesterday, and after inspecting it, said that the soot buildup wasn't actually that bad and he'd feel bad charging us for it. Instead he recommended a smoke guard, which I'll try out.
