The first dollar coin was issued in 1782. Today you can still find and use dollar coins as currency they are not a rare as you may think.

The 1931-S Lincoln cent has a very low mintage, yet if you had one that is uncirculated, it does not sell for much more than a circulated one. Part of the reason was that during that time, people started to hoard uncirculated rolls of these coins because they heard it had a very low min total.

Cleaning old coins is a big no-no among professional coin collectors since most of them prefer to acquire them in the unaltered condition. Amateur cleaning is believed to destroy a coin’s surface. So bring in your dirty coins! We never turn away anything because it is dirty, who knows that dirt might make it more valuable.

Your fingertips contain acid that will, over time, harm the surface of your coins. If you must handle your coins, try to pick them up by the edges. Make sure your hands are clean, and consider wearing soft cotton gloves.

Old coins that were minted in the US always indicate “United States of America” on the coin. It is possible that “United States of America” may be abbreviated on very old US coins. A coin that does not indicate that it is from the US will generally indicate the name of its country of origin.

Antique coins of particular interest to collectors include those that are historically significant, those that have an error that was introduced during the minting process, and those that are rare or circulated for a very limited period. Take your coins to a reputable coin dealer to get an accurate value estimate.
