For high-fashion eye wear without the designer price tag, check out this downtown independent outlet. The Optical Underground carries all of the top brand names found at other upscale opticians but at much lower prices. Much of the stock consists of over-stocked, discontinued and sample frames plus a smaller collection of knock-off styles. You will also find optician services and a range of prescription lenses from inexpensive plastic to high-tech, thinner-than-thin progressive lenses.

I had an unsatisfactory experience Everybody screws up once and a while and maybe I was it for them the day I came in. Anyway, I had the anti-reflective coating replaced twice and finally told them to just remove it. It scratched with even the most careful handling. (They forgot to tell me the first time not to use soap and water to clean it.) They were friendly and redid the lens twice without any hesitation. So I guess I'm panning their product not their service. I thought their prices and selection were good. PROS: Price ... read more
old time opticians I love Optical Underground because every time I walk in the employee are all so nice and helpful. They immediately offer to clean the glasses I have on, help adjust so they fit perfectly and always give honest opinions on my new frame selections. Yeah, you may get in a pickle if you break your only pair 'cause they do not offer in and out service, but they offer quality at inexpensive prices.
Optical Underground I probably would not return here unless I was looking for something very specific and it could only be found here. I have found that smaller optical suppliers or even larger chains have met my needs more efficiently and are more convenient. The prices seem a little higher and they don't seem to have a selection that is as practical as the other places I have been. The staff if friendly, experienced, and accomodating. PROS: great staff CONS: none enough selection
