All Hail the Gas Station Taco
Okay, so it's not really a gas station, but it certainly looks like it. I had ample reservations my first time stepping in the place, but I couldn't ignore the rumors. The floor looked like it belonged in a garage, because I suppose it was one. A few paintings and clipped articles adorned the walls, and it was dead empty.
But what did that say on the menu? Roasted habanero salsa? Black bean spread? So these are some interesting tortas. I went with the Yucateca and got an order of freshly fried churros to go, then got the hell out of the weird little gas station.
My friend and I each took a bite of the sandwich and got glazed, stupid, dreamy looks. It was really, really good. Then we did not speak again until the last bite of our churro dessert was gone.
I keep going back. Olecito is easy to get to, and after going through most of the menu I haven't had a bad meal yet. They run out of things from time to time (like those churros), and if you're a big eater you'll spend close to $15 for a satisfying amount of food. Try the Baja fish tacos, which I was told are fried catfish, they stand out.
I've even come to not mind the gas station part so much.
