I had surgery on March 20 and, like any responsible patient, scheduled my physical therapy in advance so I could start recovery on time. The day before my first appointment, I was called and told it was canceled because the therapist was out of the office. No backup plan, no contingency, just canceled. When I tried to reschedule, I was told the next available appointment was two weeks out. I was also told to call every day and hope for a cancellation if I wanted to be seen sooner. First off the medical professionals were all fantastic! Unfortunately the billing dept is the problem. When OHSU bills insurance they bill it as a hospital visit, when in fact it’s a Rehabilitation Clinic visit and should be covered by insurance. They aren’t billing from the clinic so your insurance company won’t cover it under PT, they will only cover as a Hospital visit with your much higher deductible. Called to schedule an appointment for after surgery physical therapy and the first appointment wasn’t till December 1st. That is 45 days away. If I do that then pt will be worthless.
