I’m really struggling with the politics within the office of the Health Department and the office of Howard Gamble. The people of the community through their local Church again decided to bless the homeless population with meals donated to the freeze shelter and were stonewalled by this office. The meals were to be prepared by “food handlers” in an inspected commercial kitchen and stored in a commercial freezer at a local USDA licensed manufacturing plant. Horrible staff. Will belittle and downgrade you for having limited resources and turn you away because you don't have health insurance.
Advertises childhood immunizations but refused to make an appointment for a childhood immunization by telephone after I answered negatively to having health insurance. I have a new job and insurance hasn’t taken effect yet. Told me that this service is only available to children who don’t have doctors. The July 23 post on the health department’s page says says no such thing.
Family planning representative recommended abstinence when discussing teen pregnancy. To be fair she also said free condoms available but abstinence was a mentioned choice of birth control for a sexually active teen. Marshall county health department was aware of the reality of sexually active teens .
Compassionate, Caring, Supportive, Dedicated, Conscientious, Expert, Kind, Patient, Loving, Generous, Awesome, Amazing, Wonderful! These are the qualities and characteristics of the fine people who work for and with this Department!
The team at The Wheeling Health Department go above and beyond to help the citizens of this county. Do you realize how nice it is to sit in a smoke free restaurant and eat? (If you have forgotten go south to the next county). The Project Hope team is amazing going out and caring for our homeless. The programs the Health Dept. offer such as the food card classes are helpful to everyone who works with food. And Dr. Mercer is one of the most compassionate guys I know! Great team and great service to our county! Thank you!
