We assist new arrival refugee families with a whole house full of furniture for free, we have a clothing store where they can come pick out their clothes for their whole family for free, we have free English and citizenship classes as well as free driver's training classes. We also provide a baby shower for new refugee moms. We tray to welcome each family with the love of Jesus. We fear what is unknown. Often that is people who don't look like, act like, speak like or dress like us. Proximity alone won't ease our discomfort, but relationship will. Oasis is generously serving refugees, but they are also impacting St. Louis by helping ordinary people share life with these extraordinary survivors - families having to humbly rebuild their lives from scratch in a foreign and frequently hostile environment. Years ago when we just arrived at St. Louis, we came from Iraq. When arriving in a different and new country, a compassionate smile, a friendly gesture, a sincere offer to help can be some of the greatest blessings. I took a group of Acteens from Barlow First Baptist Church in Barlow, KY to Oasis on Monday, October 3rd. This ministry is amazing. Such a blessing for everyone that comes to see how the Lord is directing the staff and volunteers. Thanks Travis for the tour - we will definitely be back to help!
