They do not stand by their estimates of what patients will pay after insurance claims. Neither federal or NYS protections against surprise billing applies to dental bills, so patients do not have any recourse and just have to pay whatever they end up charging if their estimate was wrong. They told me that it would be $110 for a mouth guard. I asked if they were sure because my previous dentists have all said it would be $300-400. They said they were sure. I was having a phone service issues well as a painful tiothissye. The receptionist said unless I'm paying cash they wont see me. She said 'we're not taking any insurance either. She recommended igo to an emergency room. I asked if she could give me the address of one that is nearby but she sa said 'no'. I thanked her and left. Our toddler has a huge oral aversion due to being in the NICU and getting intubated a lot for breathing and eating purposes. But Dr. Benichou has an amazing way with him, and we've had several successful visits with her. She's incredibly kind to both our son and us, takes her time answering questions, and does a great job cleaning his teeth. The facility itself is very clean, and we've had a great experience with the desk staff. I had a terrible experience during a routine root canal. The dentist broke a metal file off in my tooth and, when I followed up with the endodontist, they informed me that they couldn't remove the file and would have to work around it. Later, they scheduled an appointment but then said they no longer accepted my insurance. I was forced to find another endodontist, and now NYU has stated they will not cover my copay of $104.
