I have encountered a variety of outcomes while utilizing this hospital for various reasons - emergency, care of an elderly loved one, pregnancy, etc. The staff are generally welcoming and understanding, but I am also cognizant that this is a small hospital, with limited resources, and it is only understandable that there are times when care may seem delayed, rushed, or not up to "standard". Terrible experience watching a loved one be “cared” for in this hospital. ICU nurses lack empathy and some are straight up incompetent and should not be providing nursing services. Mistakes with medications, rude to family members, disrespectful to patients, delayed treatment and scans. One day we asked to see a doctor (while being a patient already) and were told to check out and go to emergency if we wanted to see a doctor… resulting in days of untreated infection spreading. Sitting in emergency with my mom, two days in a row. She’s got dementia, not eating, fully incontinent, Indwelling catheter, and yesterday they sent her home with my 80 yr old dad to manager to her care. She is combative and a danger to herself and him. And they discharged her. Today we are back with the same pain, same issues, sitting for 6 hours with NO CARE. And if they try to discharge us it will be so disgustingly unsafe I hope they get to go to court if my mom or dad dies from this.

Recently had major surgery at Norfolk General Hospital and was very impressed with my experience. I stayed for 2 nights. Staff was pleasant from initial check in to my release. They were very attentive to my needs & responding to my questions/concerns. The surgeon followed up with me both mornings. My care was top notch. Hospital was clean. Bed was new & super comfortable. Food was hot & delicious. The nurses kept offering if there was anything else I needed before they left the room which was very nice of them!!
