There are wonderful sweet treats at this cozy upscale bakery, but the specialty of the house is bread. The owners of Noe Valley Bakery, who got their start at Il Fornaio, turn out a product that is truly the staff of life, full of fresh, natural ingredients and baked to absolute perfection. In addition to light-as-a-feather baguettes and the architecturally compelling Pain d'Epi, which looks like the over sized stalk of wheat for which it is named, find denser offerings with swirls of pesto, cheese or fresh fruit. The prices... read more

Good Cake – Their cake is also gooooood! I bought Chocolate Moose Cake for birthday cake for my husband. The cake is very sophistcated. Taste is not too sweet, but more "chocolatish". Highly recommended!
Terrible service – When I stop into a bakery because on impulse I want to surprise my staff with some pastry, I dont expect that I am going to be chastised for buying too much, and not pre-ordering. This is what happened at Noe Valley Bakery. The staff made sure I was aware of their irritation in having to box up 2 dozen pastry when there were 3 other people waiting behind me. When I let the manager know how embarrassed I was by the incident, he confirmed that because of my greed, someone who might be expecting that item wou... read more
Tarts, cookies, pies, and great breads make this neighborhood bakery a hit with kids and grown-ups alike. – In Short Excellent breads are the mainstay of this cheerful neighborhood bakery. Don't miss the specialty loaves studded with moist dried apricots and crystallized ginger, chopped figs, or irresistable chunks of dark chocolate and sweet dried cherries. But the breakfast pastries--muffins, scones, croissants--and other baked goods make the visit worthwhile, too. The folks behind the counter give service with a smile, an... read more
Yummmmmm – Good neighborhood, Great bread: Apricot-Ginger, Chocolate-cherry, Double raisin. Baguette:onion sesame. Enjoy coffee and a roll, sit on the bench outside and watch the world go by.
Untasty – The specialty breads are good, like the choc-cherry or the fig or the apricot-ginger, but the cakes and pies are next door to flavorless and with tough or dry pastry. Undersweetened, underspiced, underwhatever to make them yummy. Service is not that friendly unless you know the server and I OBJECT to a tip jar in a bakery that charges so much! Pay the workers well and don't guilt the customers for the joy of having a loaf taken off the shelf.
Great Rugalach – They've recently added challah and rugalach to their repertoire. Both are very good--the challah is firmer and less "smooshable" than Semifreddi's, and the pecan-raisin rugalach are flaky, crunchy, and delicious--the best I've had in the city.
