About this business

Nicholas M. Wetjen, MD joined The Iowa Clinic after directing Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for nearly ten years. He chose The Iowa Clinic because of the talented team of surgeons who provide exceptional neurosurgical care right here in his home state of Iowa. His interest in neurosurgery began before medical school, in his undergraduate studies in developmental neurobiology at Loras College in Dubuque. He instantly became fascinated with the complexity and design of the nervous system. Dr... read more

Dr Wetjen permanently disabled my mother after a fusion in 2018. Part of her spinal chord was deprived of oxygen during the surgery he performed, leaving her in exponentially more pain, which doctors have said it’s irreversible. She will have to live in pain forever because of him, and when he was confronted with this he ran like a scared puppy. Do not go to this man for anything.

I had a fusion done by Dr Wetjen and he made my pain and weakness worse. I've been told by other Drs that the damage is irreversible and there is no treatment. He ruined my life. The worst part is that he took no responsibility for it.

You are in good hands with Dr. Winjen. I had a brain tumor removed. I can't thank him enough for improving the quality of life for me - no more headaches. He's very good at what he does.

Doctor Wetjen is by far one of the best doctors I’ve met. I feel very fortunate to have had him. He and his team are extremely skilled and modest. When it came to surgery he kept me and my family at ease even down to when they wheeled me into the operating room. His whole operating team introduced themselves to me in the OR and even... read more

In May 2019, I was diagnosed with a disc between C4C5 that had ruptured into my spinal canal space, compressing my spinal cord approximately 90% and causing significant symptoms. My best friend and neighbor is an anesthesiologist at Methodist in Des Moines, and when I saw my MRI I was surprised I was still breathing and my own and my extremities were still moving, I sent him my image and asked for two names. One of them was Dr. Wetgen. I always joked with my wife because of my parents great experiences at Mayo, that I always... read more
