My father is 101 years old. He contracted pneumonia. An ambulance took him to Saint Joseph's hospital Emergency room, where he fell and broke a hip. He was admitted and is now in the surgical unit on the 7th floor of Mary Grace wing. About a week ago, I was told my dad would be going to a rehab unit as soon as a bed came up. My Mom was admitted 2 weeks ago and the care on the Mary Grace wing was ok. But they moved her down to the ALC ward to await hospice placement and things went downhill quickly. The care she received there was sub human. A dog would have received better care. It is no wonder she passed away after 2 days there. We were told that she would be treated much better in that ward, with care and compassion and got the exact opposite. From admission to recovery, every nurse and staff member I encountered at St. Joseph’s Hospital demonstrated true dedication and care. You can tell they love what they do—the patients always come first. My heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Shea and her entire surgical team, as well as the amazing nurses who supported me before and after the procedure. I use to give this place a 5 star, until I find as of 4 or 5 years ago they do not fo one in one therapy any longer unless it changed! Only groups I was told then! Sad! Cutbacks made to mental health is ruining the province!
