History Established in 2002. In January 2001 Mr. Dan Terry purchased the three story former hotel on the corner of Washington and Main streets and began renovations which took over 2 years to complete. In 2002 Mr. Terry opened a casual dining restaurant and called it "The Newell House" (which is the original name of the building when opened and operated as a hotel in 1872 till 1962). Been here twice. Quality food at moderate prices. Decent wine list. Friendly but not sophisticated service, but expected in a college town. Will likely return again.
Good food but snooty – Our dinner at the Newell House was great. However, we will not return because of the behavior of the employees and especially managers. While we had a reservation, upon arrival other "favorite" customers were given our table. We were put by the kitchen. As the evening progressed, it was apparent that certain tables were given special attention, while we were ignored.
