I have had incredible experiences with MUSC Orthopedics, MUSC Ortho Oncology, MUSC Hematology-Oncology, MUSC Neurosurgery, MUSC Cardiology each and every one of my doctors will attest to how grateful I am to them and their efforts at helping me. This facility does not prioritize military veterans with TBIs. I've been given a referral from the VA for care here but when I called the appointment line today (11/01/2024 @ 1353,) I was told that I could not be seen until April 2025.
I have a condition call myotonic muscular dystrophy. There is only one doctor in this area that treats that condition and I can't spell her name so I will call her Dr. R. She is terrible! I haven't seen a good neurologist in years. I wonder where MUSC gets their neurologists.
After 5 days of slowly losing all strength on my left side I finally went to the ER where I was admitted to neuro for 6 days. Overall impression- unfortunately there are not many options for good medical care in Charleston. The one doctor that seemed to have an ounce of compassion and knowledge only saw me for 5 minutes and had way too many patients to keep track of.
