I was in mountain youth academy around 2011 and let me just say as a child that had mental health disorders, the way they treat “freak outs ” is actually horrible. one staff member would sit on the ground and lock their legs around you and restrain your arms above or behind your back, and if you wouldn’t calm down they would freaking tranq you like an animal with something we all lovingly refer to as booty juice :) I was also roomed with a girl who had schizophrenia, and she destroyed everything that ever ment anything to me... read more

I was there as a kid around 2003 and almost had my arm broken from a huge staff member restraining me for defending myself. I was there almost a year when mark beaty took over. I remember Tim stout was a boxer and he was one of the best staff members at any facility I was ever at. Granted I was a bad kid no child deserves what I went through at 15 years old. I went here when I was younger, the staff were nice (that I remember). The main thing I remember was being a little girl (about 7 years old) and being put in a dorm with older girls. The youngest in the dorm I was in being 14. The staff were nice and had lots of activities for people to do. The therapist I had there was kind, but the one thing that did scare me was when someone would go out of control and staff had to hold them down.
