In November of 2021 I open an new account with first merchant and my check was little over **** dollars first they tell me that it will take 3 day to clear then 10 days the they tell me it will take 30 days when I went there on the 30th day they told me I can't withdraw any money from my account on the 30th day I have to wait until midnight on the 30th day no one at the bank told me that not even the bank manager and there is a big misscomuation problem at this bank

I have been a merchant with First Merchants Bank for 20 years. We moved our sucessful business 5 hours south and have stopped doing business with them. There is no exit plan with this bank and if you try to escape, they will **** you down and threaten you if you do not pay for invented fees and now overdraft charges because of the fees they charge. These fraudulent claims have been disproved with the FDIC and the BBB has closed the complaint. As a courtesy to the customer, First Merchants Bank has also refunded all of the assessed customer's fees, even though they were charged legitimately.
First Merchants Bank took over Monroe Bank and Trust in 2019. Since the merger, as a customer of the bank, it has been one issue after another. There is an avenue to submit issues online but issues are seldom addressed. From my perspective, the merger was a complete flop. The issues at the time of the merger were numerous and they continue to exist. If I could I would give this company -stars. My daughter took a college loan with this company dba Invested. Even though her loan was deferred they continue to harass us for payments. ES services this loan and says we own nothing until my daughter graduates. Yet we just received a summons. Merchants says we owe them almost $30,000 in interest, on a loan that is in deferment. I had went through the loan process for changing my line of credit over to a conventional loan and was pre-approved. I asked before we did the appraisal if there would be any problems later on. I was told there would be no problems at all. We did the appraisal and then the underwriter wanted me to start with the jumping through the hoops and I did as they ask.Several different things they asked for that were not mentioned in the pre-approval. If I could give zero stars I would. This bank sets up accounts for the kids at a local elementary school to help show kids the value of saving. Cute idea right? Except when the child doesn't put money in on a regular basis the account charges a fee so eventually the child has nothing left and the bank essentially is stealing from an eight year old. Nice job Monroe Bank and Trust! Lesson learned by my eight year old is not to use this bank as it is bad and steals.
