Jennifer Ho's comments show are completely out of touch, not to mention condescending and disrespectful. Renters need support and solidarity to win the ONLY fair and equitable solution to the housing crisis during covid: a complete cancellation of all rent and mortgages. Shame on Minnesota Housing for promoting anti-renter rhetoric that is unnecessarily exacerbating the housing and public health crisis.
They should be pushing for a rent/mortgage freeze rather than being rude and condescending to people who are out of a job during a global health crisis.
told people "dont be stupid, pay your rent" when people are forgoing food to pay rent and going into serious debt to not be homeless. This is a pandemic, and that's a horrible response to the rent crisis
When faced with supporting at-risk and vulnerable constituents or supporting powerful interests, MN Housing Commissioner Jennifer Ho chose cowardice. "Don't be stupid, pay your rent." -MN Housing Commissioner Jennifer Ho.
I hear today that they shared an article that was unbelievably demeaning to the people who are attempting a rent strike IN A PANDEMIC. First of all, you just straight up called them “stupid” which is an ableist nasty thing to call people who are fighting for their ability to remain in housing, but you clearly remain blind to the actual reasons why people are striking in the first place. Shame on you.
I had so much respect for Jennifer Ho. You were part of shaping my value system when I was a young case manager and now words like “don’t be stupid, pay your rent” are coming out of your mouth. Poor people aren’t stupid, though I might be for having believed in you so much.
"Don’t be stupid, pay your rent" says Jennifer Ho. What a ridiculous and tone deaf response to the people who are out of work and unable to pay their rent and the people standing in solidarity with them. You should be standing up for the people of Minneapolis not attacking them!
Jennifer Ho could not have been more condescending in giving this quote: ‘Don’t be stupid, pay your rent’ Thousands of people are either going into credit card debt, forgoing food for their families, or just plan CAN'T pay their rent. Are they stupid? Would she tell workers out on strike: Don't be stupid, go back to work? We need a leader at MN housing that understands not just finance, but is willing to stand with and protect the renters across the state that need help NOW!
Jennifer Ho called the people of Minnesota stupid because people were laid off and are now unable to pay rent. Protesting is not stupid. Passing the blame on laid off workers when the governor has the power to give renters and home owners a holiday is stupid.
