One of the oldest and most popular Mexican restaurants in town, Mijares is the place to be on the weekends. So unless you enjoy crowds, I recommend going during the work week instead. Food is good and the drinks are better, plus the wandering mariachi band is fun - but they are a weekend attraction only. Happy hour is good too. Wish they would do away with the photo and flower vendors - the only reason I gave four stars versus five. Great for large groups, with three or four separate spaces to accommodate your group.
Hidden gem of a Mexican restaurant in Pasadena. Huge restaurant in a nondescript location. All the classic, Mexican favorites and great buffet lunch and weekend brunch.

Since I moved to Pasadena a few weeks ago I made finding a good, local Mexican spot a primary goal. Mexican food is my comfort food and Mijares fits the bill! I really like the food and the ambience of this place. My first time, I ordered a combination plate with chile relleno, chicken taco and cheese enchilada. It was all super-fresh and very tasty.
