This is traditional Mexican food at its finest, prepared in a restaurant that definitely knows its chilies and sauces. Whether you order simple carnitas or tamales, you'll know you've found the type of Mexican food that originated in Mexico and not the States. The menu at Mijares Mexican Restaurant includes fajitas de camarones, taquitos con guacamole and roland's taco salad served with plenty of taco meat. The place features simple furnishings indoors as well as a beautiful patio area. Handsome Spanish art work hangs on the... read more

Great standby – The things I like about Mijares include their margaritas, their friendly staff, and the patios. I've dined here for dinner with my husband...had cocktails with a small group of friends, and enjoyed large family functions. I've also had good takeout...since it's right next door to a jewelry studio where I take classes. Their food is always consistently good...their drinks always consistently excellent. The staff here is more than friendly, and always accommodating. Take note that A LOT of people know this...an... read more
Terrible food, overpriced, not even close to authentic Mexican cuisine! – I took two friends from out of town to this place upon the recommendation of my husband. He hadn't eaten there in several years, but I figured it would be fine. I was so embarrassed. These two people had never been to Los Angeles before and were looking forward to some authentic Mexican cuisine, something that they can't really find in Portland, their home town. Because they are good friends, they were honest with me when I asked them if they liked the... read more
Rather eat Taco Bell – Well we decided to try this place on a whim and it was not worth it. This restaurant is not athentic, its more of a El Torrito type restaurant. My Cheese and Chicken enchiladas were very tasteless, sauce was bland, chicken was dry as well, good thing the Guacamole had some taste. My friend ordered the Chile Colorado and he would not touch it again after a bite, I having a more open mind to taste tried it and found it Horrible. The sauce was watered down and the meat just tasted bad. Will not ever go ba... read more
Why bother? I came because the margaritas had been highly recommended; I left disappointed.
Locals drain margaritas in a festive cantina. – In Short From the neon Corona sign to the bulk-quantity chips and salsa, Mijares looks like the set of some 1970s Univision movie and represents the quintessential SoCal taqueria. There's nothing fancy here, and that's the point. Happy hour is the main draw, and lasts from 4pm to 7pm, Monday through Thursday. Dishes full of complimentary chicken wings, nachos and little burritos keep packing in the crowds.
Excellent Mexican Restaurant The margaritas are great and so is the guacamole (the large guacamole easily feeds 6 people as an appetizer). The ribeye stake with shrimp is delicious and the kids dishes are very well served. The ambiance for dinner is very nice and the food is served promptly. It's a great family restaurant.
Fun for a company outing Mijare's is a fun place for a company outing - it is festive, the margaritas are good, and there is plenty of space for a large party. The food is decent, too.
Oldest Mexican Restaurant – Jesusita Mijares A young teenage bride, found herself widowed and alone. 1900's she immigrated to California looking for new life. With the help of her husband, Antonio Mijares. She would wake a 3am to make tortillas. Now tables were added, rooms build and patios poured to accomodate hundreds of guest daily. This place is anything but plain. It has old style Ambiance and the food are Jesusita's recipes from Guadalajara, Mx. Authentic, Family Oriented and can accomodate anyone. Cinco de Mayo is onl... read more
Save your money and time – I grew up eating traditional mexican food --went to Mijares and was extremely dissappointed --first clue should have been how enourmous the place was--everything about it was bad, food, service, cost. Worst place I've ever eaten in Pasadena. And Pasadena has GREAT restaurants, I'm sticking to Olvero St.
