I would NOT donate blood with NY blood center. One time 11 years ago I donated blood and they still harass me MONTHLY including calls before 8am. I’ve told them I don’t even live in NY. I also blocked dozens of their numbers and they still find a way to call. I refuse to donate blood anywhere but the Red Cross because of this. Lesson learned
The staff is so sweet here, I’ve been coming and donating whole blood for years. Unfortunately, it seems that the scheduling system is overbooking appointments perhaps because I’ve had to wait for over an hour before donating. I understand that platelets take longer and are prioritized, but it’s discouraging for those of us who donate whole blood.
For the last 3 times I have been here, I have been waiting over 1 hour for my whole blood donation appointment. It took me 2.5 hours today. They always prioritize platelet appointment and let 5 people skip ahead of me. I understand their appointments take much longer time. My time is valuable and I take off early on my busy days to come donate. It is not fair for me to wait over 2 hour for my whole blood appointment.
Had a really dissapointing experience here. The nurse insisted on using my dominant arm for the incision because she felt it was a better vein (I’ve never had an issue but sure) After inserting the needle she moved the needle up and down several times until the blood came. It was evident that after a few minutes the blood stopped flowing so she came back and moved it around some more to little success. This was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. There was no welcoming environment at all. When I entered, no one greeted me. I arrived 20 minutes before my appointment, completed my survey promptly, yet still waited more than 15 minutes just for a nurse to test my blood. There were many nurses chitchatting and only three beds were occupied. The nurse who assisted me during the blood test was rude and unprofessional.
