My review is based on weekday donations. I have only done a few platelet donations in this location. My experiences have been overall positive from the staff. Needle insert at the beginning is good and after removal of needle the site of the needle (arm) has minor to no bruising which is great as I am prone to bruise easily in general. Suggest if possible for a more spacious Grand Central location to accommodate more donors (especially the walk-in’s) at a popular location. Horrible experience Totally unprofessional . Rude Dirty They care more about getting their blood then they do about the people that are giving it They were willing to put me at risk to achieve there goal of collecting 0- NEVER NEVER choose this location
I would NOT donate blood with NY blood center. One time 11 years ago I donated blood and they still harass me MONTHLY including calls before 8am. I’ve told them I don’t even live in NY. I also blocked dozens of their numbers and they still find a way to call. I refuse to donate blood anywhere but the Red Cross because of this. Lesson learned
The staff is so sweet here, I’ve been coming and donating whole blood for years. Unfortunately, it seems that the scheduling system is overbooking appointments perhaps because I’ve had to wait for over an hour before donating. I understand that platelets take longer and are prioritized, but it’s discouraging for those of us who donate whole blood.
For the last 3 times I have been here, I have been waiting over 1 hour for my whole blood donation appointment. It took me 2.5 hours today. They always prioritize platelet appointment and let 5 people skip ahead of me. I understand their appointments take much longer time. My time is valuable and I take off early on my busy days to come donate. It is not fair for me to wait over 2 hour for my whole blood appointment.
