I would highly suggest not going to this emergency room if you are in need of urgent care. There are other options that are nearby that will potentially get you in quicker, but I can 100% say that you will be treated better elsewhere. Whoever the front desk lady was on the night of/into the morning of September 21st (I was there from around 12:30-4:30am) needs to be looked into by someone higher up. Downtown Des Moines Mercy. Wait times are longer than anywhere i've ever seen in the country. I've been there three different times with family members in the last 2 years. One family member had a stroke and lost Most of their vision, and it took 13 hours to get them into a room.. Another family member had a severe reaction and was in the hospital emergency room Hallway for 2 days by the front desk. Literally go to any other er you can find. Like. Drive out of town if you have to. Went in tonight for back pain from a car accident. Ive been working with my primary on it for months. Have lost reflexes and strength in one leg, have lost 90% (MEASURABLY) of my activity levels, already tried xrays and have been waiting a month and a half for an MRI. The worse experience ever. The nurses at the triage are the worse. Whoever that works on August 6th 2025. Their bedside manners are the worse, literally was talking crap about patients so loud that I can hear it. We have been here since 4pm, as I'm writing this at 9:34pm, we're still not being seen yet. If I could give -5 stars I would. This is by far the worst emergency room I have ever been to, they should rename it "your emergency is not a priority room". It was dirty, patients who were visibly losing consciousness weren't tended to, dirty hospital blankets all over the chairs and stuffed under them, dirty tissues on the chairs, it was disgusting. We waited 6 hours in the ER to be taken back to a room to wait another 3 hours before even being seen by a nurse again OR a doctor! No time updates from anyone, had to track so... read more
