The story of Mercy begins over 90 years ago during the devastating flu pandemic of 1918, when we first opened our doors as Queen's Hospital on the corner of Congress and State Streets in Portland, Maine. Over the years, Mercy has faced many challenges, among those a growing and changing population, and dramatically different medical technologies. As we continue to fulfill Mercy's mission of service to the changing health needs of the greater Portland community, we will be implementing a two-phase plan that ultimately relocat... read more

Went to the ER due to a bloody situation. It turned out to be a less than 10 min evaluation & a "hope you have a good day", you owe $900.00! I arrived and spoke to the woman at the wondow, gave all my info and sat down. I waited seconds and was brought right in, my vitals were taken, I was given a Jonny told to change and waited for the doctor. He came in, evaluated me, suggested a home remedy and I was done. A couple days later I get a phone call informing me of the bill which is outrageous. The total time from punching out... read more
Nightmare ER. STAY AWAY. Read the other bad reviews, it's likely all true. 6+ hours to begin receiving "care", hardly busy. Dr. Russo is particularly incompetent, as he misdiagnosed me, spoke over me, ignored questions, wouldn't provide records, and was snarky/rude overall. Personally, if I had no clue what I was doing, I'd at least be kind. Had to go to Maine Med ER for competent care, where the entire staff had nothing positive to say about Mercy. If you have had a similar experience, reach out with personal anedotes or ev... read more
My wife had hip replacement surgery on Tuesday. She woke up with a high fever and the surgeons office told us to go to Mercy emergency room. We waited 2 hours and received no service. I would go anywhere but here. I would rate them a negative 5 if possible. I had a really bad experience 2 years ago. I would not have gone here, but my wife wanted to follow her surgeons advice. We should have left and gone to Maine Med. 5 hours and they ran tests and did nothing. Waste of time and insurance money. Sad joke.
I came here at 9pm, still haven’t been seen at 1am. I heard all hospitals around here are also bad but good lord. Do better.
