If you can avoid going here, please do so. They charged me my total bill then came and told me I owed more than double the original. They didn’t provide an itemized estimate nor after bill. They didn’t perform any costly exams or scans, it was a minor check on the eye that took less than a minute. Nothing should have changed between an estimate and a final bill, exact maybe a charge for the antibiotic prescribed, not something this drastic. $5300 cover charge. That is my headline because that is the most important bit of information I can relay in this review. It was not disclosed at check-in or check-out that I would be charged a $5300 "emergency room fee" just to walk in the door and check in at the front desk. Had this been disclosed at check-in when I provided my health insurance card, I may have reconsidered and gone to the local urgent care. Excellent care, food is very good and the staff is very kind.
Went to AFC Urgent Care, was referred to Mercy ER. Explained why I was there to the intake nurse immediately. Asked if they could help, was told yes. Waited almost 4 hours to be told they could not help. That is a lot of time to be sitting in pain and a complete waste of money. It is a scam.
I was billed more than double what I was told my bill would be at the time of check out and no one was able to tell me why. Only one customer service rep said that didn't sound right and she would send it for review but I later found out she never did. All other customer service reps basically told me the bill is the bill and I have to pay it. I received no help when I was at the ER and was left alone most of the entire time.
