60 hp 4 stroke with 14.1 hours ingested water bending a connecting rod. I was running on plane up a river and the engine seized up. The shop does not know how water got into the cowling, mercury designed the motor with the air intake near the bottom of the engine so it sucked it in. They refuse to cover the damage by warranty. Their warranty is garbage, the air intake design was done by a child. Great company to do business with. I've had dealings with them for decades, yes decades... Great staff, everyone I've met has a degree of ownership in their position and job, so the quality shows.

Great outboard motors! I do own several of these motors. Quality made in the Fond du Lac Wisconsin in the United States. Regarding the fact that Mercury Marine (founded by mr. Carl Kiekhaefer in 1939) does still exists today says enough. Technical innovation and buildquality are as far as I'm concerned beyond all doubt. They have an extensive dealer network around the world. Mercury is no.1 on the water. Without a doubt.
As far as my engine goes, I haven't had much issues out of it. But the customer service representative's from the parts department are not very knowledgeable, as some of them have probably never worked on an engine. But to think that everyone who works for a company doesn't make mistakes has to be insane in my mind, unless you are tought to defend this company no matter what.
