My 84 year old mother was referred to Dr Mena in 2004 by her gynecologist after a mammogram and biopsy confirmed that she had a small lump in one of her breast diagnosed as cancer. When my mom told me that she was referred to a surgeon/Dr Mena and he had told her that she needed to have her breast removed I told my mom that we needed to get second opinion before she had her breast removed. She said she was afraid to tell the surgeon afraid he would be mad at her. I told her not to worry that I would go with her to see him an... read more
Horrible doctor with a complete lack of human compassion and care for his patients. I had an emergency appendectomy in August of 2015. He sent me home with gaping holes in my abdomen because "You are too fat and will rip this stitches anyway". Those are the exact words this doctor told me. He has since been reported to memorial and the medical board because of his horrific bedside manner. Run away from this doctor!!
Wait times always over an hour and has an exceedingly rude receptionist who talks in a very condescending manner. Receptionist will talk a lot when you ask questions but never actually answers the question and then rolls her eyes at you when you ask for clarification. Doctor has no ability to empathize with you. Has a nice general manner but nice isn't what sets you apart.
Dr. Mena is very helpful and has a heavy workload. He is always there for his patients.
I am leaving this post for doctor Michael Mena because it happened 15 years ago when he was at doing general surgery over in Red Bank. No one has been as competent or honest or really understood how badly I was hurting. I joked he could have my firstborn. He put me in Erlanger for a thrombosed strangulated hemorrhoid that another doctor had tried to slice open in the office. I think maybe it was more than that though. By the time Dr. Mena saw me the wound had started to necrose and he told me he wasn't sure he would be able ... read more
DONT see this doctor. My GP referred me to Dr. Mena for a colonoscopy. When I saw him(after waiting for 30 min), he decided to do a rectal exam. Rather than leaving the room to let me (a 23 yr female) undress, he closed the blinds & asked me to drop my pants & underwear to my knees. I was so uncomfortable that I started crying. He asked “What do you want me to do?”. I asked for at least a gown to cover myself up with, & he tossed a paper sheet to me. I covered up & laid down—still very upset. He asked if I wanted his secreta... read more
Dr. Mena is a competent surgeon--I'm not denying that. Unfortunately, his opinion of his skills as a surgeon would perhaps be better suited for the Chief of Surgery at the number-one hospital in the world. He originally assigned a recovery time of roughly six weeks, in which time he assured me that the wound would close and that neither dressing changes nor drainage would persist after that. It has now been nearly a year, and I'm still having to endure dressing changes several times a day. Obviously, doctors aren't perfect, ... read more
