Our family member set up body donation with them over 10 years ago. Now that they have passed they declined to accept the body donation. We were told they would be accepted no matter what when the agreement was made, never told there were reasons they would later decline. We would have made back up arrangements had we known there was a possibility of decline. The whole point of setting this up was so there was no stress when the person passed, which is now the opposite.
My mom thought she would be donated upon her death. After she passed, her body was not accepted. Her dying wish was denied.
Donating what's left to help others brings meaning and purpose to the experience of losing family.
