The McAllen Botanical Garden, also called the McAllen Nature Center, is a picturesque park in the heart of the city. At 59 acres (23 hectares), it is one of the largest of its kind and is rich in flora and fauna. This verdant space boast old trees and dense meadows that are home to numerous species of birds, butterflies and reptiles, including the endangered indigo snake and horned lizard. It offers plenty of opportunities for trails and hikes, and is also a good picnic spot for the family.

The staff members were great and Lillian gave me info about the native olive tree I had been seeking since our last trip here. Wear your walking shoes!
Beautiful scenery and wildlife worth the trip very friendly and clean.
We are passing through the valley and met Ernest at the Frontera bird walk. He told us about this nature center so we showed up for his bird walk this morning. WHAT AN AWESOME PLACE !!. He was a wonderful guide and filled us in on the history of the forest as well as the vision of future plans. This place is obviously very dear to his heart.
