Mayo Clinic sells itself as the place that solves the unsolvable. What I got was years of pain ad torture, wasted money, and no real answers. It started with 21st Century Neurology. They told me I had a rare dystonia that mostly affects women and children. A $200 genetic test, usually covered by insurance, would have proven them wrong immediately. I don’t know where to start apart from coming in with complete gratitude. My entire health team did not stop until finding an actual diagnosis, trial and error testing and several specialist working together with brilliant minds and extensive knowledge to finally get me a proper diagnosis. My dad went to Mayo Clinic because they are supposed to be the best, but our experience has been the exact opposite. He is battling cancer, yet instead of feeling cared for, it feels like they are using him as a test subject. There has been a serious lack of compassion, communication, and doctor follow-up. PLEASE READ: I was seeking help from the Mayo Clinic with Dr Fasilino for severe forehead symptoms from suposide botox injections in Mexico over 2 years ago. He tried everything possible to avoid my chief complaint including going down every rabbit hole he could think of including poor sleep and sychiatric care. I repeatedly told the genetic counselor that I didn't want to get the testing if my insurance company wouldn't coverage majority of the $3500 cost. I was assured they company they contract with (Variantix) wouldn't perform any testing until they obtained approval from my insurance company. Variantix contacted me and told me that my insurance will cover the majority of the cost, and soon after I received a denial letter from my insurance company.
