By far the best Gym in Brooklyn, maybe all of New York for the price. – -First off: it's gorgeous. Hard-wood and exposed brick, the entire second floor of an old converted warehouse. -Second off: the equipment is state of the art and they're getting new machines it seems like weekly -It's NEVER crowded. Even at their busiest (seems to be weeknight evenings) there is never a wait for equipment. -The personal trainers are exceptionally knowledgable and way more important than that, there is a large variety of personality and b... read more
Business response:
Thank you for such a glowing review! We are always happy to hear from our members, both positive and constructive opinions. It's how we determine what works, what doesn't and what our members would like from us. We're a family here at Maxim, and love suggestions!
Overpriced, compared to others – For a yearly commitment contract, you pay $70/month minimum, and have to pay an extra $10/mo for towels, and $10/mo for a locker. There is not a good selection of machines and when they break, they take a long time to repair. There is a nice boxing set in the aerobics room, but good luck finding time when there are no aerobics. The TV's on the treadmills randomly work, but the brick-wall view is nice. The last gripe is that their web-site boasts a nice cafe, with internet and fresh-brewed cof... read more
Business response:
We did indeed remove the cafe but for a great reason-we now offer a private pilates studio with sessions provided by Core Solutions (www.coresolutionsnyc.com). We are also updating our website to make it accurate and more user friendly. We hope you check out all our improvements soon!
Terrible – This is by far one of the worst gyms I've ever been a member at. There is one good thing, the gym has exposed brick. As everone knows exposed brick is very important when working out. The cardio machines are constantly broken, it takes months for this over priced, mediocre gym to fix the equipment. The gym has a poor selection of machines. There's not that much to choose from. But it does have nice, exposed brick. Also please be advised that the last 1/2 hour the gym is open you must work out in the dark. The mana... read more
Business response:
We're sorry you had such a negative experience with us. Since last year we have replaced many dysfunctional machines as well as incorporated new ones, such as the Marpo Viper Rope Climber for a complete upper body workout. We hope you have a chance to come by and check out the new Maxim!
Average – Clean and modern looking but really a throw back to the stone ages when it comes to cardio equipment. Maxim has the cheapest cardio equipment in existence. The cardio equipment manufactures must have paid Maxim to take the equipment off their hands! There are many treadmills and some elipticals. What is needed is some quality cardio equipment and more variety of the cardio equipment, like the other new gym in the neighborhood called SOMA has. SOMA is the same monthly price as MAXIM, but at SOMA the cardio equiment ... read more

Although this is an older review, we would like to say that this problem has been rectified. We are making many improvements to the gym based on feedback from members like you! So thank you for your input!
Where Brooklyn hipsters dare to treadmill: A health club with machines to plug in, turn up and sweat it out. – In Short At this sprawling 14,000-square-foot gym, exposed brick walls and oversized windows construct the casual industrial feel that's perfect for its hip membership. Also well-suited to the tattooed clientele are personal CD and DVD players built into cardio and strength-training equipment, as well as studio classes (including aerobics, step, kick-boxing and Spin) that don't require an early sign-up, just a show-... read more
