Quality Mexican with an Austin zing! – MMMM....I love Maudies! They are always so nice there. I have only had my order messed up one time out the hundreds of times I have been there and not only were they very gracious about it, they also gave us the meal messed up for free! I recommend this place to anyone wanting great tex-mex with that great Austin feel!
Re: "Chilli Dog Enchaladas" – Maudie's has never billed itself as a "Mexican" restaurant. Look at the titles in this listing. Maudie's has always been a "Tex-Mex" restuarant. And the ENCHILADA (from Spanish "enchilar" = "to add chili pepper to", not "enchalada") topped with chili con carne (beef chili) is pretty much the quintessential Tex-Mex dish. In the 1940s and 50s my grandfather used the recipes beloved by his family and friends as the foundation for a small restaurant in south Texas. The most fundamental and favored m... read more
Really good Tex-Mex, great spot – We do love the setting and porch here even if it is crawling with some people cheesier than the food served! Ha, always a wait usually made 10x better with the fantastic margaritas. Perfect for families, groups or just 2. Maudie's has quite a few great plates on their menu although some duds and inconsistent but with that kind of traffic...well better then most. Staff works hard to take care of you, they have on more than one occassion changed things up for my picky wife!
Tex Mex a la Westlake – When I dine with locals we usually frequent one of the other locations for consistency and no wait. But when there are out-of-towners involved I usually take them to the "Milagro" location in Davenport Ranch in Westlake. Its a little more upscale, a great patio and nice drive in West Lake Hills. Because of the volume, Milagro struggles a little with consistency, but when its bad, its still pretty good. The food is Tex-Mex and I don't believe they have ever claimed to be anything else. The margaritas m... read more
Great Tex-Mex – We've been to Maudie's a few times now and always have a good experience. The Queso is good and the beef is really fresh...love the taco salad! Great neighborhood place....
Sundays at Maudie's – My husband and I go to Maudie's every Sunday for breakfast, I love the french toast and he enjoys the Migas the service is great, the prices are reasonable, I really like the atmosphere too, we are thankful to have Maudie's in our neighborhood because there are not a lot of newer places that have a classy feel to them. Plus they always remember to fill up my coke!
Terrible! – This place is TERRIBLE! I couldn't believe that the parking lot was packed because usually that's the indication of great food but no! All the dishes I could see were watered down pieces of sad tex-mex! The meat is flavorless, they don't drain their lettuce, their guacamole has an offensive amount of garlic, and...it's dirty! The table we were seated at wasn't clean from the last customer. Definitely NOT recommended.
Decent food, good if you live in the area – There's still not a lot of restaurants near Brodie and Slaughter, which is a plus for this Maudie's. Otherwise lost in a crowd, the Maudie's stands out here amid the pizza delivery places and fast-food joints. Overall, it's not bad, but nothing special. I recommend the Skinny Sheryl's, especially for those watching what they eat. Corn tortillas filled with tender chicken and covered in a spicy green sauce. It's surprisingly filling and one of the cheapest entrees on the menu. For b... read more
Chilli Dog Enchaladas – I just got back from the worst Enchaladas ever. The atmophere was great but the food is hardly mexican. The "chili con carne" was just wolf brand chili with velveta chesse. The "chili" with onions made the enchaladas taste a lot like chili dogs. Great if you are in New York at a hot dog stand but no good if you are in Austin at a mexican food place. NO GOOD> If you want gringo Tex-Mex this is your place but if you want Mexican food find another place. I will go back and try the Fijatas and everyone kn... read more
