Dr Sorrell was my elderly mother's admitting/attending physician recently. He was mindful of her age and careful not to perform this non-emergency yet urgently needed surgery until she had been 'optimized' both nutritionally and from a cardiac standpoint. The surgery was necessary to determine the nature of the abdominal mass on her lower intestine, which unfortunately turned out to be a non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He remainded her attending physician even after performing his part, the surgery.
