Excellent sushi with some great Korean specialties too. – The Scene Crouched among the clutter of North Dale Mabry Highway, it doesn't look very promising, but once you step inside this nice Korean restaurant, the noise and crazy traffic give way to quiet and order. Two big aquariums dominate the decor, big fish lazily swimming amid the diners. Inexplicably, you relax instantly. Perhaps it's due to the clean, neutral colors and big stretches of rice-paper screens. The Crowd The patrons tend toward well-dressed business types... read more
BEST SUSHI EVER!!!! – My husband and I eat at Matoi every Friday. We have eaten at Matoi at least once a week for the past two years and have never gotten a bad meal. The sushi cannot be beat. I highly recommend the Volcano roll. It is a must try! I have eaten at every other sushi bar in town and none of them even come close to the quailty of Matoi's. The sushi chefs and staff know us on a first name basis and that is very special to us. I recommend this restaurant to ever sushi lover out there.
The best sushi in town – I have been going to this restaurant since I was little and it's the best place to go for good sushi and a friendly enviroment.... The chefs know you by name and are always friendly the service is fast and reliable and the food now that is what I call a slice of heaven.
undecided – I go back and forth on this place. I've been there many times over a 4 years. I like Yoko's and Ichiban better. If you're near RayJay and want it quick and simple - try it. Good points: Korean food (Kim Chi etc) on the menu. The inside is beautiful. Aquariums. Cute menus and take-homes that you can purchase (coffee mugs, pint glasses etc) Bad points: The rolls seem skimpy and the overcompensate just by using more rice. The wait staff never lets you know what you have or what's coming. The Spicy Yellowtail we just... read more
My sushi secret is out! – I've been driving almost an hour to Matoi Sushi since it was SOJ & now my secret is out... I love this place! You have to check out the Special's Board, including the Bucs Roll (the sauces on top are so good, you don't dare dip it in soy sauce) & my personal favorite,OECE (bbq'd eel w/ cream cheese served tempura. The cream cheese just melts in your mouth. It's almost like dessert,it's so rich!) The chef's are very personable. They'll make sushi not on the menu or currently not on special. The servers... read more
