I was yelled at by the staff member I spoke with. She answered one question then hung up while I was in the middle of asking another. I feel like to work this kind of job you need a level of professional empathy to work callers through their panicked crisis state when they first call, and this representative totally dropped the ball.

I called this poison control number due to accidentally ingesting a household chemical (which recommended calling them) and I managed to get three words out before the employee snapped “is this a life threatening emergency??????” I was confused and thought maybe I’d been redirected to 911. I asked if it was poison control and she said yes, then said she was triaging people and snapped to tell her my question, so I just gave up and hung up.
