About this business

A red sandstone edifice built in 1889, this fashionable restaurant, Martine, serves up nouveau Mediterranean cuisine and traditional tapas to a cosmopolitan crowd. The decor combines antique architectural elements with delightful, thoroughly modern accents spotlighted with dramatic lighting. Diners sit at the marble bar or in high-backed booths to choose from the varied menu. Business-casual lunchtime diners prefer gourmet sandwiches, salads and soups, while those on later dinner dates opt for a set nightly menu including so... read more

A classy, candlelit downtown brownstone serving flavorful dinners and exquisite desserts. – The Scene An intimate, grown-up dinner destination, Martine is well-designed and comfortable. Original tiles, immense oak and beveled-glass doors, and a bar backed by an old bank vault give the restaurant character. Small dinner parties and post-event revelers make the atmosphere lively. The Food Though half the menu is billed as tapas, the items are actually small plates with international influences. Flavors are beautifully orchestr... read more

Hidden Treasure – Having fine dined in Salt Lake for years, we were very surprised to find Martines, slightly off the beaten track, but well worth the look-for. This renovated older building exudes a subtle but charming ambiance. Check out the bank vault/wine cellar. What really shines at Martines is the food. A fairly simple menu, the food was surprising creative without compromising taste. Semolina/chipolte (?) crusted scallops were heavenly. My duck was the best I've had all year (better than Grappas in Park City) and the... read more

poor service – The service at this once loved restaurant has gone considerably downhill. The last couple of times I have been in, the greeter has been rude and the service so-so. Not worth the price of their dinner.

Best kept secret – UPDATE: THIS PLACE HAS CHANGED!!! i CANNOT BELIEVE IT IS THE SAME PLACE SUCKED BOTH TIMES THIS SUMMER FORGET THIS PLACE!!! KEEP IT A SECRET!!! This is one of Utah's best kept secrets. It is never busy, or so it seems. I have only had one dish I didn't like in all my visits, The waitstaff is generally decent. The wine list is good for a small list. Great desserts. The only catch is that the small dishes are not Tapas, that is insulting to Martine's chef as well as to real Tapas

Eurostyle or Eurotrash? – Here lies a formerly good restaurant, done in by a cavalier attitude and absentee management. From a favorite to a place to avoid, each time was progressively worse. I hope that the management takes steps to restore the former glory. Please get rid of the Eurostyle rude waitstaff and employ a pleasant hostess as the first step, then do something about the amazingly inconsistant food quality. Too Bad.

Odds are... – This place was good 4 out of 4 times now it is bad 3 out of 4 times. The menu items are attractive but lately haven't been as good as the description. I may go there alone but I refuse to embarass myself by bringing guests or recommending the place. Too bad, they have just become much more popular than in the past - oh the price of success.

Yummy!! – This is a great place. The building is fabulous and the decor is outstanding. The menu items for Tapa's and the dinner selections are unbelievable (very eclectic and creative). Our waitstaff was attentive and the limited wine list had some great Spanish selections that I have never seen before (you should give the Rioja a try).

Defintely an impressive restaurant! – My boyfriend took me to Martine for my birthday a few weeks ago, and it was a fabulous evening. I love the marinated olives that you start with. They are a perfect beginning to a memorable meal. The prices are reasonable, the tapas was excellent, and the portions were perfect. I had the lamb, and it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Definitely a must try. The next time I want a romantic night out and fabulous cuisine, I will be visiting Martine.

Great food – We went for dinner on New Years Eve. The place was busy, but we were seated right away. The food was very flavorful and nicely presented. The atmosphere was relaxed, even though most people were dressed up for the night. The low lighting and candlelight was romantic. The service was good, and our waitress even brought us glasses of wine after our near emplty wine bottle fell off the table. Parking was a problem and the bill totalled almost 150.00, but for a nice night out, I would highly recommend this restauran... read more
