After filing a complaint against Mr Makinney for fraudulently representing himself as a therapist, his review board stripped him of his CSAT designation. He never was a formally trained therapist and only holds a pastor’s degree. It appears the CA regulatory board finally took action against him too, since his website has been down for weeks now. Good riddance. This fraud was a danger to hurting marriages in need of an actual therapist.
I believe Mark is well meaning, but in many areas he displays zeal without knowledge. Yes, Mark has the CSAT letters behind his name from a course he went to, but he is NOT a formally trained or licensed counselor, which is why he can’t accept any insurance. His limited counseling background comes from a divinity degree. Consequently, he lacks understanding in important areas of counseling such as how to foster a therapeutic alliance, which is a critical component of therapy.
