Although we live right around the corner, we will most definitely not be coming back to this restaurant after our unpleasant experience last night. As a special treat, we brought our kids in for dinner last night to celebrate my son's last day of preschool. Despite the fact that the restaurant touts itself as a neighborhood family friendly restaurant, Mario made it abundantly clear to us that our kids were not welcome. As is typical for small children, my 10-month old daughter (who is still learning how to feed herself) drop... read more

Authentic Italian and Cozy! – I love Mario's! From the moment you step inside you feel at home. I'm always greeted by a super friendly staff. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting. The food rocks too! All of their dishes are authentic and not too spendy. If your lucky, you will meet the owner, Mario. He is a great guy, so sweet and funny. I'd def recommend this place for families, dates, girls nite dinner etc. Cheers!

Always fantastic – Annually for at least the past 5 years we have been coming down from Lincolnshire to meet up with family for a dinner and night on the town. This includes 4 children under the current age of 10 and they love Mario. The atmosphere is "friendly neighborhood" with excellent food, during a lull in a busy night there the kids even got a tour of the kitchen. This place is always reliably 5 star.

FAMILIES NOT WELCOME – My husband is a mgr of a 5 star restaurant&I am in the hotel business, we understand how important it is in this economy to attract&care for loyal guests. It’s a shame that Mario’s didn’t care enough about retaining us as customers. The atmosphere is deceptively welcoming.Food-decent, U could go to Topo Gigio(3blocks away)&have great food&warm family atmosphere. One redeeming quality-our waitress was very pleasant. Perhaps the owner should learn such a skill. We had a dinner rsv for 3 adults&a 10month old.... read more

Downtown quality with low prices! – Here's a Gold Coast classic - I love going to this place and stop by every few months. We were there last week - 3 of us. We had the bow tie pasta, a pizza and the rav special. Nice selection of wine and great service. Mario always stops by the table to check on us (he makes his rounds to every table) and makes us feel special. Very reasonalbe prices and large portions.

Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors – Friendly garden-level Italian eatery serving fettuccine, veal saltimbocca and lasagna to folks perched in black leather booths.

Neighborhood Gem – Mario's happens to be in our neighborhood, but we would get in the car if were the only way to experience the combination of the ambiance, the people, the food to be sure, & the diners, which result in a very tasty experience. Well priced, prompt friendly service, and none the least, the best soft shells in Chicago. P&C

Decent food at ridiculous prices – I have been going here for years and always thought the food was great and very fairly priced. Over the past two years prices here have gone through the roof. I am not sure if Marios has remembered where it once came from but there are better priced places for the money. Maybe the establishment has decided to take advantage of all of the Gold Coast money...Go elsewhere.

Marvelous Mario... – I recently moved down to the Gold Coast, and fortunately, Mario's is at the end of my block! First I had a pizza delivered, and after seeing there full menu, decided to take a walk down there next time. What a great place! Nice neighborhood feel, wonderful food (try the steak or porkchop vesuvio!) friendly, capable service, and not too pricey, considering the neighborhood and the incredible quality and portions of the food. Nice place to grab an afterwork drink and an appetizer at the bar as well. Mario ... read more
