The Marietta Times was established in 1874, ending a long line of smaller newspapers in the Marietta, Ohio, area. On Jan. 8, 1831, John Brough bought the defunct Pilot paper and began the Western Republic and Marietta Advertiser. He was indirectly responsible for what would later become The Marietta Times and The Cincinnati Enquirer. The paper serves southeastern Ohio and north central West Virginia.
