I think my psychiatrist Ronit Sharma means well. But his low emotional intelligence, lack of education in how to speak to traumatized patients, and resistance to listening to reasonable arguments once he has made a judgment, left me feeling gaslighted, disrespected, and retraumatized. Overall, this inpatient unit provides necessary care, but I want to share details that aren’t clearly explained in the videos on their website, as the process can be surprising if you’re not prepared. Admission begins in the ER, not directly on the psych unit. You’ll be given paper scrubs and all personal belongings are taken, including phones and bras. I went here over a year ago twice. Bryn Mawr’s psych unit is the best that I have been to. You get your own room and your own bathroom, you don’t share anything with a roommate. The doctors actually sit with you and talk with you for real for real (more than just 5 minutes guys!) and I actually got the help that I needed from this hospital. One of my biggest fears was going to a hospital that would make my depression worse. This was so far from the case at Bryn Mawr's psychiatric inpatient that I didn't want to leave. You get your own room and bathroom with different ambient lighting to choose from, the food is very good and you get to select your meals (as much food as you want), and the staff is outstanding. If your insurance is accepted anywhere else go there. To be admitted to the "psych ward" you have to go through the ER and no one should ever have to endure that. I can't put into words what I've dealt with in that place
