This is my favorite hardware store in the entire state of Maine. The people who run it are helpful and kind, and the variety of goods is second to none. They maintain a great balance between charming and sensible.
My favorite store not only Downeast, but Upeast and sideways. Such a great selection of natural foods, teas, hardware, old stuff, etc. The best thing about Machias and all of Washington County. A classic.
