About this business

As one of the first restaurants to lead the Meatpacking District's revival, Macelleria has proven itself to be a staple in an ever-changing neighborhood. Owned and operated by Violetta and Sergio Bitici, Macelleria's rustic, Northern Italian cuisine never disappoints. Using only the finest meats and home-made pastas, each visit to Macelleria is like sitting in on a Tuscan grandmother's Sunday dinner. Drop by and you're likely to see Robert DeNiro or Jay-Z dining in the restaurant's wine cellar, constructed in-part using a 16... read more

Find some salt – Best in NYC? Not by a long shot. In my job I have the great fortune to eat at many top restaurants, and the food here was high quality ingredients that showed no flair or knowledge of seasoning. I have nothing bad to say about the atmosphere or service - I sat at the bar and both the hostess and the bartender were knowledgeable and attentive. But the food?!?! I had the shoestring potatotes - that had no salt whatsoever on them, the sauteed spinach - no flavor at all, and the bone in ribeye. Bone in ribeye is... read more

A really nice time – Took my boyfriend to dinner with 8 of our friends last night. Wanted to sit outside but at 9pm that definitely wasn't happening. Order a round of cocktails at the bar. My bf's "dirty" vodka martini was best I've ever tasted, my henessey side, however, was heavy on lemon, light on the henny. No biggie tho. Everyone amazingly showed up on time and when I reported this to our hostess, she was a little caught off guard. Rebounding quickly she offered us a table in the main dining room adjacent to the bar. We... read more

The pastas, OMG, the pastas – I know that this is a steakhouse, but I can't say enough good things about the pasta. I recently had the Pappardelle al cinghiale with wild boar sauce and it was so amazing. The pasta is hand-made and you can tell..the sauce had nice big chunks of meat that were velvet-y and so flavorful. My dining companion had the Straw & hay tagliolini with peas & prosciutto and that was an heaven in a bowl. Again, hand-made pasta, delicious, salty prosciutto and a light cream sauce. For dessert, we had the c... read more

Not worth the price – Went there on a Monday night for my girlfriend's birthday. I ordered a bottle of Barolo and they pulled the "we just ran out of that" and gave me a vintage 2 years later for the same price. Thanks! We had oysters and clams that were very fresh but shrimp was a little tough. We split a Porterhouse for two and the steak was cooked to our request. The filet was not as tasty as the strip but it was a quality steak nonetheless. Service was good. The waiter disappeared from when we ordered to when we paid the... read more

Great Pasta, romantic atmosphere, close to clubs and bars – I love this place. I took my girlfriend here on our trip to NY over the weekend. The place was a nice setting, big open front section. We had mozzarella with tomatoes as a appetizer and it was very light and fresh. I ordered the PAPPARDELLE with meat sauce which was great. We ordered a bottle of Chateaux St. Michelle (CANT ORDER BY THE GLASS) I do marketing and sales for a restaurant group so I am very analytical of restaurants. One of the best places Ive been to. O... read more

BEST restaurant in New York!! – I have eaten here twice, both times with exceptional service. The first time with a larger group of 8 and found the staff so attentive. We made a reservation and they were very good about seating us as soon as we all got there, not something that always happens in the meat packing. But on to the food. AMAZING!! I cannot stop thinking about how incredible it was. The salami or meat appetizer you must get. The gorgonzola iceberg edge was such a lovely take. But, my absolute favorite was the veal... read more

Great steak, great pasta, great service – You can't go wrong with anything on the menu at Macelleria. The zucchini fries, the pasta, the porterhouse, the wine, the desserts....I want to go again tonight!

Romantic location for Vday – i can't think of a better place to celebrate Valentine's Day than at Macelleria. The wine cellar is perfect, dimly lit and the food is amazing.

The owner nearly ruined a birthday party – The food is pretty good, but we had organized a birthday party for a friend and were told it was ok to bring in our own champagne (which was not on the menu)for a corkage fee of $25. When we arrived, we were told that the fee was going to be $100. Fortunately we had the agreement in writing. However, the owner came out and berated our table for an error his staff made, then he accused our Asian American friend of not knowing how to speak english, even though they were clearly speaki... read more
