Macelleria

4.3

About this business

As one of the first restaurants to lead the Meatpacking District's revival, Macelleria has proven itself to be a staple in an ever-changing neighborhood. Owned and operated by Violetta and Sergio Bitici, Macelleria's rustic, Northern Italian cuisine never disappoints. Using only the finest meats and home-made pastas, each visit to Macelleria is like sitting in on a Tuscan grandmother's Sunday dinner. Drop by and you're likely to see Robert DeNiro or Jay-Z dining in the restaurant's wine cellar, constructed in-part using a 16... read more

Great Place for a party 2 through 8 – I went with a party of 6 (we had an Open Table reservation.) Everyone had a great time. It is a boisterous environment, but I could still hear most everything said at our table. We shared some courses and not others. I was very pleased with the classier style of the servers not clearing dishes until all diners at the table were done with the current course. Not a single complaint on the food and the staff was attentive.

Watch out for overcharging – The service was pedestrian at best. When I asked the waiter what the Ravioli del Giorno was today, I was told "It is a square pasta". An $8 glass of Chardonnay became $10 on my bill. This Palermo-style rip-off was the nearest I got to an Italian experience at Macelleria. There are plenty of better Italian restaurants in New York.

Not impressed with their version of a "steak" – Honestly, we tried this restaurant for a few reasons: 1. Location in the meat packing district 2. Reviews from citysearch members 3. We've never been to an Italian steakhouse All of the above sounded like the makings of a fun evening. We had reservations and we were seated immediately. The waitstaff spoke Italian and that added a nice layer of authenticity. The menu was relatively sparse and that was fine since we came for the steak. We ordered some appetizers. For one, the oys... read more

warm staff, great food – as the weather gets warmer, macelleria is one of my favorite restaurants to dine outside. no matter what i'm in the mood for, there's always something on the menu i can turn to. if i want to get a small nibble and drinks with the girls, the salumi plates and zucchini fries are delicious. if i'm craving pasta, any of their dishes fit the bill - my favorite is the garganelli. their porterhouse for two can easily serve four. desserts are pretty standard, but very delicious. i'm not a big drinker, but th... read more

Rude owner/manager – I'll start this out by saying I am hungry. I have never stepped foot in this place and never will because of the rude and discouraging service I received from a manager/owner in regards to a delivery order. I placed an order from a delivery website but soon received a phone call saying the restaurant did not deliver to my area (I am 5 Village/small blocks away). So, I call the restaurant to find out the delivery area and I'm told "it's only walking distance." When I ask for more clarification, I'm put on... read more

Best lasagna in town – Macelleria is one of my favorite spots to eat in the city when I want something that tastes like home. I love the way the restaurant is set up and the waiters and managers are always nice and usually remember your name. I regularly have their pastas and salads and when I'm in the mood to indulge, I partake in a tbone or porterhouse. I'm not a huge fan of the meatpacking district, a little too trendy during the week and bridge and tunnel during the weekend, but other than that, I love Macelleria.
