About this business

As one of the first restaurants to lead the Meatpacking District's revival, Macelleria has proven itself to be a staple in an ever-changing neighborhood. Owned and operated by Violetta and Sergio Bitici, Macelleria's rustic, Northern Italian cuisine never disappoints. Using only the finest meats and home-made pastas, each visit to Macelleria is like sitting in on a Tuscan grandmother's Sunday dinner. Drop by and you're likely to see Robert DeNiro or Jay-Z dining in the restaurant's wine cellar, constructed in-part using a 16... read more

Great happy hour – 2 for 1 drinks? I'm there. If you want to make a night of it, it's a great place to grab a steak with the boys after spending time at the bar. Nice, old world style bartender. Love it.

Great place to brunch – Macelleria is an absolute gem for weekend brunches when the weather is nice. Its location is perfect for people watching and the food is amazing. The Sicilian Egg toast plus a mimosa makes any sunday morning for me. And it's always nice to indulge in one of their pastas...mmm...yummy carbs!

A Nightmare that became a wonderful Comedy – The words "Unbelievably Bad" get thrown a lot these days, but if your desire is to experience modern gastronomical catastrophe at its most gruesome depths, then Macelleria is the dump for you. A prime location wasted like Chateau Margot used for Sangria, Macelleria lures its patrons in with charming decor and the promise of italian delicacy. Begin with unclean tables, add one part bad service, 2 parts bad food, and 3 parts disgruntled employees, and you get one complete awful mess... read more

Beauty and Brawn – I love this place! It is authentic New York. It is run by a lovely family that puts its heritage first. Taking great care in staffing and creating an Italian countryside atmosphere. If you need to make a reservation or book a party the manager could not make you feel more well taken care of. Every "t" is crossed and each "i" will be dotted. If you like a Gin Martini you will have the best one you have EVER tasted when made by one of the finest mixologists in the City. This truly is a place to live, laugh, ... read more

GREAT cocktail menu – I went to Macelleria after work with a couple of friends. I know that you wouldn't normally think of a steakhouse as an afterwork kind of place, but they have the most amazing cocktail menu. I had a drink called Biscotti 48 that had averna, some sort of cream liqueur and a biscotti garnish and the Violetta - which was such a treat - Vodka, creme de Cassis, Prosecco, Lime Juice Mint and Blueberry. We munched on some Zucchini fries, they were delicious. The bartender was top-rate, very old school and not ... read more

Love it – Macelleria is truly a stand-out in the meatpacking district. Forget neighbors Nero and Vento. Pastis is only good for people-watching. Macelleria is where it's at. Hurry in during fall and have the pumpkin ravioli, the best I've ever tasted. The staff is pleasant and the owners and manager are positively delightful!

Best Steak In New York City – I visited Macelleria for the first time after reading about it in Esquire's 20 Best Steak's In America and I was not disappointed. Although the magazine recommended the T-Bone, I shared the Porterhouse for Two with my wife and could have shared it with the couple at the next table - it was that big! I ordered it medium-rare and it was just right. The house steak sauce was a perfect compliment. Neither my wife and I are big drinkers, so I can't accurately comment on the wine list. The sides were ... read more

great private party location – My company recently had a function at Macelleria and I was so impressed. We had our event in the wine cellar downstairs and it was fantastic. We started out with a tomato and mozzarella salad, then moved onto pumpkin ravioli, rib eye and mixed dessert. Ample portions and very resonable prices. The staff was very efficient and the managers and owners were very hands on making sure that everything ran smoothly. Highly recommended!

PERFECT! – Wow the downstairs wine cellar is amazing! If you can have dinner there. I had the best pasta carbonara ever. The prices are good and the atmosphere is excellent. I will definitely go back and tell all my friends.
